[TOS] POSSE CA meeting notes, 2009-12-03

Logs from the POSSE CA meeting that just happened in 
#teachingopensource. This is probably the last round of POSSE CA meeting 
notes that will be sent to this list; after this, we should be putting 
our meeting minutes on the POSSE CA wiki pages and on the posse-ca 
mailing list instead of the TOS list.

19:16:55< mchua> so it looks like (the RH budget process takes some more 
months to get through, but there's no reason why this won't happen) we 
have a POSSE budget for the next year.
19:17:15< mchua> it's not much, but it's enough to pay instructor 
expenses for a couple POSSEs per quarter
19:17:32< mchua> (meaning instructor travel, lodging, food - a couple 
thousand dollars per POSSE)
19:18:09< alolita> did you have a chance to ask him if the OSI can be an 
organizing partner and raise funds?
19:18:11< mchua> which also means that participant food, lodging, and 
getting location would need to be picked up by someone else, or arranged 
separately.
19:18:43< mchua> alolita: Yeah, I think we were thinking something like 
"RH and OSI partner to do this POSSE together"
19:19:20< alolita> that's great - since it would be very cool to be able 
to do this together - tiemann is very excited about this :-)

19:19:43< mchua> alolita: did you have any particular way you wanted to 
do the team-up?
19:21:04< alolita> mchua: well i would like the OSI to be an organizing 
partner and be able to raise some funds to help pay for local costs 
(food, lodging, local travel) plus some funds for tos and osi for 
education projects (if we can raise the money)
19:21:09< mchua> alolita: one thing we might do is, once dates and 
location are settled, get me and you and tiemann and max and anybody 
else from the OSI you want in a gobby session and write an announcement 
about this together so it really comes out as a joint one
19:21:31< mchua> alolita: that sounds great, and aligned very well with 
what we were thinking too.
19:21:52< alolita> mchua: i think that's an excellent idea - and it 
would be a very positive step
19:22:09< mchua> alolita: which brings me to the question about dates 
and locations :)
19:22:20< alolita> so i will draft a proposal with some detail and send 
it to you to iterate on

posse-ca at teachingopensource list so we have a place to discuss that 
proposal?

you'd rather remain private we can do this over private email first 
until those things are sorted out, then announce what we can to list)

mellon silicon valley - and he's offered to host posse at CMU

main campus too
19:25:02< mchua> I know CMU is interested in running a POSSE in PA this 
summer too so there might be some awesome synergy possible there.

availability - in may-june
