At CUE 2009 I was in a talk in the open source pavilion, and the
author put up some signs with statements such as, "I look for useful
content online to incorporate in my class."  The teachers in the
session were to walk around and put a tally mark on each sign they
agree with/identify with.  The statement that was worded like, "I
check copyrights and permissions to make sure I am allowed to use
material I get online," had 1/2 of the marks of the other signs.
This, of course, was the objective of the speaker -- to point out that
we are all a bit of an ostrich-head-in-the-sand about respecting
copyright in the classroom.  I extrapolated from that experience to
reckon this is a common problem, and so apparently have our friends at
teachingcopyright.org!
