Sounds good to me Bonnie!

Since your talk is on Thursday, you could mention the TOS BOF that follows shortly after that, and the Workshop on Friday evening.

Cheers,

Greg

Subject: [TOS] community based projects panel

Hi,

I am on a panel on community based projects at SIGCSE next week. My contribution is to talk about the important of organized support, resources, and community when it comes to encouraging faculty to take on these sorts of projects in their courses. Since we participated in HFOSS as a chapter, I am of course going to talk about how that experience and community was critical for us. I will mention SOFTHUM. I am also going to talk about our university's service learning support mechanisms. Finally, I am definitely going to mention the Teaching Open Source community, POSSE's, the various workshops that are held, and so on. Am I missing anything?

Many community based projects are open source projects, and many open source projects can also be viewed as community projects because they have deep impact on communities (Sahana is a good example, and is used in my very own community of NYC).

Thanks,
Bonnie MacKellar
