The Mozilla project has never made it a practice to have people
(whether students or anyone else) sign contributors agreements.
Contributors retain copyright to what they contribute, and must
license their contributions under an approved license or license
scheme (typically the MPL/GPL/LGPL trilicense that's standard for
Mozilla code). People who commit code are responsible for
double-checking that the code they commit has been properly licensed
and that contributors vouch for their having the necessary rights to
contribute.
