[TOS] Textbook outline

Hi Folks,
I do like the idea of an open source text book and I also like the idea
of group development. More eyes are likely to result in a more robust
product. The piece that I would like to see is how to fit the content
into a term or semester. It would also be good to have an introduction
that identifies the purpose of the book and the intended audience. For
example, the outline contains lots of useful information about OSS, but
much less information about the software engineering content that is
necessary to develop software. Are we assuming that users of the text
already have this knowledge? Mind you, I'm not suggesting that the book
contain everything one needs to know to participate in and contribute to
OSS as that is too much information. I'm simply suggesting that we
identify the focus of the book for potential users. Let them know what
sort of background we are assuming.
Just my 2 cents,
Heidi

So first, everyone agrees on a structure.
As I said before, I like the structure of Tridge's course, and I think
that it would translate quite nicely to a textbook structure. So I
stole
it. I also stole some of the work that Chris Tyler and Dave Humphrey
have
been preparing for POSSE.
Here's the first cut of the first version of an outline of
an outline of a textbook:

Let's hear it, profs. Right idea? Wrong idea?
Please advice, because at some point, I'm just gonna start writing and
soliciting writers, and if we're wasting our time, that would be great
to
know up front. :)
