[TOS] POSSE NG

Hi Mel, Michael, old uncle Tom Cobbleigh and all -

OK - guys as you know I should be able to bring back some good info and ideas from SIGCSE, and will also hopefully make some good contacts. With a bit of luck this will help with POSSE NG, especially if it's delayed a little to the middle of 2011. With a bit of luck I might be able to meet/identify people who would be willing to participate in July. Unless getting this set by the end of March is a little too late for a July POSSE - I'm just thinking that I might be able to take a little of the load off Michael and Mel if the timing isn't way off. Any comments?

Regards
Grant

  Hi Mel,
Thanks for the prompt response. I will put it on hold, as you suggested. Perhaps, we could run the workshop sometime in June or July.

  Regards,
  Michael.

      <http://teachingopensource.org/index.php/POSSE_Nigeria>I haven't seen an
approval email for this POSSE yet and according to [1], instructors need
to be confirmed before opening registration. I'm just not sure about the
state of this POSSE and would like to make sure we're following the
process before jumping the gun. Can you fill me in? :)

This POSSE hasn't been formally approved yet, in part because we don't have instructors lined up. The instructors listed on the wiki page are Michael, Jan, Pierros, and myself - but I know I've said earlier that I *can't* make it to South Africa to teach on those dates, and haven't seen confirmation from Pierros or Jan that they're willing and able to instruct. What we have, I think, is a list of instructors that the organizers would *like* to have in Nigeria - which isn't sufficient. We also don't have a budget proposal, etc. which means a budget hasn't been approved either.

I do want to see POSSE Nigeria happen, and am extremely grateful for all the work that Michael's been putting in - however, we're not ready to pull the "go" switch on this yet - which is in large part my fault for not being clear about requirements and due dates - and I personally don't have any bandwidth before the New Year to help get it in shape for March.

Trying to brainstorm about how to unblock this: Michael, would it be possible to move the POSSE to a later date - perhaps in June or July, so it can be planned in parallel with the North American summer 2011 events?

Alternatively, if I'm given something very concrete (instructor confirmations, exact budgets, attendee applications, etc - I don't have time to specify the format of this right now) to say yes to in terms of approving use of the POSSE brand and unlocking some Red Hat budget, either Max or I can say yes - but I don't want to make you pour more work into something that we may look at and say "eh, we didn't tell you what we were looking for, but that wasn't what we were looking for, so we still can't approve it."
