I submitted the following presentation for OSCON 2010 under the
Education banner:
Description: Small electronic devices, netbooks, desktop computers,
backroom servers, and supercomputers all run an operating system called
Linux. How is this possible?
Abstract:
It is nearly impossible to get through a day in the modern world without
encountering multiple Linux installations. How can one single operating
system run so many different types of computers, on such a variety of
hardware?
This presentation describes some of the incredible number of different
ways Linux touches our lives every day, and dives into how this one
piece of software can be so flexible and ubiquitous. This fun romp
explores both the esoteric and the mundane, with examples from academia,
consumer electronics, utilities and infrastructure, automotive, and even
common household appliances. Examples will be shown from the point of
view of decision-makers and developers as well as users.
