Heidi Ellis and I are also doing a pre-conference workshop/meeting the day before SIGITE to discuss participation of IT students in Humanitarian FOSS projects. The notion here is that IT students (who are often interested in sys admin, networks, databases, etc) could work on infrastructure aspects of open source projects (e.g., servers that support the project itself). This is a small meeting we've put together using left over funds from the NSF HumIT project (http://xcitegroup.org/humit/doku.php), but we expect to have 8 people there including some who teach IT but have no connection to the TOS community yet.
Cheers,
Greg Hislop

Subject: [TOS] Who's coming to FIE and Grace Hopper?
Next week is both the Frontiers in Education (FIE) conference and the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing, both of which have historically had a TOS presence. The week after is SIGITE, which as also had a TOS presence in recent years.
Who's going where, and presenting what? Here's what I think we have so far, but I'm sure I'm missing stuff -- fill in, and I'll throw these on a wiki page once we iterate on some better versions.
FIE
-------
Mel: presenting preliminary work on TOS faculty interviews (with
Sebastian) and on how STEM practitioners learn sociotechnical change practices (with my group at Purdue)
Sebastian: presenting preliminary work on TOS faculty interviews (with Mel)
Hopper
-------
Heidi: on a panel about finding ones place in the FOSS world (with Terri Oda, Stormy Peters, Rachel Leventhal, and others whose names some people here may recognize, but who I don't believe are on this list per se)
SIGITE
--------
Evelyn: presenting a poster on FOSS testing in undergrad software dev courses (with Nannette)
