Hi Folks,

Stormy Peters recommended that I check out how Dr. Mark Galassi, a
scientist at Los Alamos National Labs, is involving high school students
in open source projects:

The approach involves installing Linux on an older computer and learning
Python. Students are then paid to work on an internship, typically on an
open source project:
