From braught at dickinson.edu Mon Dec 19 00:09:45 2022 From: braught at dickinson.edu (Braught, Grant) Date: Mon, 19 Dec 2022 00:09:45 +0000 Subject: [TOS] 2 Faculty Positions in CS Program with Strong Commitment to Teaching FOSS/HFOSS Message-ID: <857F0B72-C2F0-426E-8437-D89FB5CBF8D8@dickinson.edu> I am writing to spread the word about two openings for full-time computer science faculty that may be of interest to those engaged in free and open source software work. One position is a traditional tenure-track position for candidates holding a PhD. The other position can be offered at the Instructor level and allows us greater flexibility in considering candidates with different academic and professional backgrounds. These openings are at Dickinson College and the successful candidates will begin in fall 2023. Our CS program at Dickinson has made a significant commitment to teaching free open source software (FOSS) and humanitarian FOSS in our curriculum. We currently teach two courses at the sophomore level that introduce students to FOSS and HFOSS and facilitate their engagement with an HFOSS project. We also run our own HFOSS project in collaboration with the College Farm - FarmData2 (https://github.com/DickinsonCollege/FarmData2). At the senior level we have a two-semester capstone experience where student teams select and engage in FOSS or HFOSS projects ?in-the-wild.? All of the permanent members of the department are POSSE alumni and are engaged in this work. The College and the review process has been supportive and positive about HFOSS work from the perspectives of teaching, scholarship and service. If you might be interested in one of our positions please find the full position advertisement below. If you know others that might be interested, please feel free to share this e-mail with them. Finally, if you have any questions or would like to discuss the positions further please get in touch with me (braught at dickinson.edu) and I will be happy to talk with you.
